Preston
Farm is situated in the small village of Harberton, about two miles from the
ancient borough of Totnes. It is ideally situated for touring South Devon,
with the wonderful scenery of Dartmoor and the beautiful beaches of the south
coast just a short drive away. The moors and coastal paths both afford scenic
routes for the keen walker.
Totnes and Dartmouth (10 miles) are very special places, with amazing old buildings, lovely individual shops, and lots of tempting tea-rooms serving the obligatory cream tea! Each has a castle, with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the River Dart, wending its way to the sea. The boat trip between the two towns offers magical scenery and lively and informative commentaries. Combine it with an outing on the Dart Valley Steam Railway! Further along the coast is Salcombe, the harbour bursting with boats and the little streets full of places to eat. Indeed, the whole area is full of interesting old pubs offering excellent food. The 13th century Church House Inn in Harberton is one of them, and just a short walk away.
You will find that Exeter with its magnificent cathedral and Plymouth Barbican and the Hoe are within very easy driving distance, as are many of the National Trust's treasures, Saltram House, Buckland Abbey, Cotehele and Collaton Fishacre to name but a few.
This
centuries-old farmhouse has been carefully restored for your comfort and convenience,
and has full central heating. There are two large, attractive sitting rooms
available at all times, one with a stone and slate hearth and very effective
woodburner. There is a TV, CD player and books. The dining room features original
beams and inglenook, lots of copper and lovely china. The bedrooms are spacious,
individual and stylish. They have tea/coffee facilities and television. Each
has a private full-sized bathroom. There is ample private parking.
Full English breakfast is served from help-yourself platters, and there is a good choice of juice, fruit and cereals from the side table. Dinner is sometimes available by arrangement. Generous portions and fresh local produce are the order of the day for this four course meal.
You will indeed find a warm welcome, wonderful food and exceptional value if you travel "Off The Beaten Track" to Preston Farm.
